I won’t waste ‘ink’ ranting about the recent announcement by a MAJOR fast food chain that they’ve added a hot fudge sundae with bacon to their menu.
If I were queen of the food universe, I’d make these fast food peddling, money gobbling conglomerates pay for all the havoc their bloated food menus wreak on Americans’ health, especially the health of our little ones.
So instead of ranting, I’m taking the high road by sharing GOOD news made by GOOD folks who “just say no” to nasty, fattening foods and “yes” to foods that enhance health and taste good, too. Keep Reading

We are lucky. Our First Lady is a ‘fitness/food freak’ and her timing could not be more perfect.
Our kids are too fat. Vending machines in schools have contributed to the extra poundage little ones carry around. Some schools are righting this wrong by changing up the foods offered daily to youngsters at school. This study reported in the NY Times concluded that the availability of high-fat foods in schools followed regional patterns.
In the South, where rates of childhood obesity are the highest, less nutritious food was more prevalent.
In the West, where childhood obesity rates are lower, high-fat food was not as common, the study found. ‘The Obama administration is working on setting nutritional standards for foods that children can buy outside the cafeteria. With students eating 19 percent to 50 percent of their daily food at school, the administration says it wants to ensure that what they eat contributes to good health and smaller waistlines.’ Keep Reading

Imagine a country making it illegal to be too thin.
That’s what Israel just did.
In a landmark decision, Israel passed a law on Monday that bans the use of underweight models in local ads and publications.
It marks the first attempt by any government to tackle the fashion industry’s connection to the growing rate of eating disorders, the AP is reporting. Fashion models must be tested every three months to ensure they are not malnourished…
While we’re talking ‘distorted body image’ wouldn’t it be cool if someone had the power here to shut down that damn ‘beauty pageant’ show that features little girls all decked out in clothes that make them look like teeny streetwalkers? Perhaps even ‘fine’ their crazy mothers who need to find their own beauty pageant to compete in instead of exploiting their little girls. But don’t get me started…. Keep Reading
